Book Covers – John Harris

More sci-fi! Below are a few images by the inestimable John Harris. John Harris (born 29 July 1948) is a British artist and illustrator known for working in the science fiction genre. His paintings have been used on book covers for many authors, including Arthur C. Clarke and Isaac Asimov. I first encountered his works in a science fiction anthology I had as a child. I was so struck by the images on the page that I would study them for ages, losing myself in the vast and mysterious worlds depicted. He brings a painterly eye to a genre often dominated by airbrushing. If you’re interested in seeing more, I can heartily recommend this collection of his work. Something of the mood of the Crystal Henge image below was in my mind’s eye when I was writing The Old Man and the Asteroid.
